Sports Lightweight
History:
RPU 164R is number 16 of only 19 factory produced Morgan Plus 8 Sports Lightweights. The Morgan factory manufactured the cars with all alloy bodywork intended for club racing. Of the 12 known surviving cars RPU is the only one currently used in motor sport.
Preparation:
RPU is prepared by Brett of Brands Hatch Morgans and runs with SU carbs, standard brakes and suspension. Period Minilite rims with Yokohama tyres.It currently runs in the HSCC race series.
Drivers:
The driver is not quite so interesting, a 49 year old company director who usually shares RPU with his 20 year old son Robert. All was going well until Robert started to go faster than his father in only his second year of racing. The rest of the family: Wife Claire, sons Jack 18, George 7 and new baby daughter Grace 7 months tend to leave the racing and subsequent analysis to the 2 oldest men.
Philip has raced for 10 years with 2 previous years spent on sprints and hillclimbs. During the 10 years of racing Philip has never won a race or class and therefore concentrates on looking good for the pictures.
